USPTO Examiner branches out into private practice

C. Robert von Hellens leaves his career as an Patent Examiner at the USPTO to focus on obtaining rights for independent inventors and business owners.

While serving in the chambers of Chief Judge Stephen M. McNamee of the federal District Court of Arizona, Matthew Bycer worked assisting in the disposition of a multi-million dollar patent infringement case. During this time, Mr. Bycer earned his license to practice as a patent agent before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Arizona Supreme Court Admission

Matthew Bycer begins his practice as a licensed patent attorney mentored by three senior AV-rated patent attorneys, each with over three decades of experience, at the firm of Cahill, von Hellens & Glazer, PLC f/k/a Cahill, Sutton & Thomas in Phoenix, AZ.

Virginia State Bar Admission

Michael Marion becomes a licensed attorney after passing the Virginia Bar Exam, recognized as one of the hardest bar exams in the country. He begins his legal practice with Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch, one of the preeminent patent law firms, which has consistently ranked in the Top 5 firms for issued patents per year.

USPTO Admission

Mr. Marion passed the United States Patent and Trademark Office exam, becoming a registered patent attorney.

Founding

Mr. Bycer and Mr. von Hellens each branch out to found a law firm dedicated solely to intellectual property legal services.

ITC Litigation Team

Mr. Marion joined Mintz Levin’s International Trade Commission (ITC) litigation team, focusing his practice on Section 337 Investigations. The unique forum, which has become effectively a specialized patent court, afforded Mr. Marion the opportunity to work on numerous cases, taking on some of the world’s largest tech companies.

Partnership with Robert von Hellens

Our firm has been among Arizona’s premiere IP law firms for decades, and begins to rank nationally. In 2016, the firm was renamed to von Hellens & Bycer Law to better serve our growing number of clients.

Mr. Marion joins the firm, adding significant IP litigation and International Trade Commission (ITC) experience to bolster and round out the firms’ full IP services suite.
